Skills Competitions
REQUIREMENTS
Every member of your team must compete in at least one competition, or the team will be disqualified from all events. Up to 13 participants are required. Teams can opt out of the skills competition if they desire. In case of rain, alternative skill competitions may be offered.
The skills competition will take place on Saturday, June 9th starting at 1:00pm. Each team will complete each competition on the same diamond, allocated as follow:
- Diamond 2: Markham, Leaside AA, Kitchener, Riverside
- Diamond 3: East York AA, Scarborough, Hamilton, Leaside AAA
- Diamond 4: Mississauga, North York, East York AAA, Whitby
COMPETITIONS
1. Golden Glove
Type of event: Timed.
The ball will start in the catcher’s hand at home plate – then proceed in the following order – Home, 3rd, 2nd, 1B, Home, 2B Bag for SS – stop time. Each player must catch the ball and touch the base or plate at their position before throwing the ball to the next station.
Players: 5 (Catcher, SS, 3B, 2B, 1B)
2. Speed Demons
Type of event: Timed.
Each participant will be timed running from home plate around all the bases, and back to home plate. Once the player has touched home plate, the next teammate repeats the same lap. Time ends when the anchor man touches home plate. A 1-second penalty will be assessed for each missed base. A 2-second penalty will be assessed for any player who leaves before the previous runner has touched the plate.

3. Silver Slugger
Type of event: Hitting.
A test of the competitor’s ability to hit from a stationary batting tee, along a tape measure from home plate, toward straightaway centerfield. Hits will be measured for distance. Four players will make up a team.
- Each competitor will be allowed three swings in an attempt to hit the ball.
- Only the best of three attempts for each player on the team, as determined by the administrator will count toward the team’s score.
- A swing and a miss counts as one attempt (one swing = one attempt)
- A running or walking start is not permitted. Participant may take a single stride step, but cannot take multiple steps in attempt to hit the ball from a walking or running start.
